Garledeen Mae Sanborn, 73, of Midland, died early Saturday morning, April 7, 2012, at the MidMichigan Medical Center. She was born on June 30, 1938, in Rome, N.Y., daughter of the late Joseph and Garledeen Mae (Palmeteer) Sanborn. Mae was an avid crocheter and made many different articles of clothing, donating them to her church. She also won numerous ribbons at the Midland County Fair for her arts and crafts. Mae was best known for her compassion for others and loved to give things away. She was a very Christian woman and was a member of the New Life Vineyard Church. Mae was employed with MidMichigan Medical Center in facility services for over 25 years; she was a founding member of the Sanford Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a very big collector of elephant memorabilia.
Surviving are her three children, Jerry (Sheryl) Frey of South Hadley, Mass., Bruce W. (Carol L.) Reed of Midland, and Laura Reed of Midland; grandchildren, Corey (Kim) O'Neill, Katherine (Mike) Henry, Alexandria Reed, Camie (David) Alexander, Michael Priest, Jonathon Frey, Nathan Frey, Tessa Frey, and T.J. Frey; great-grandchildren, Jacob Reed, Alexander Reed, Kayleigh Inman, Devin Alexander, and Akira Frey; sister, Martha Stark of Newberry; brother, Joseph Sanborn of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents; one son, Loren Frey; brothers and sisters, Doris Stevens, Lena Cutchall, Opal Arndt, Joan Turner, Peggy Caison, Patty Laplow, Eber Sanborn and Lewis Cutler all preceded Mae in death.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Pastor Dave Vercellino of the New Life Vineyard Church will officiate, with burial in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.Visitation will be Tuesday, 5-8 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
